Jeopardy! is finally ready for its Kasparov vs. Deep Blue moment: This February, the show will televise a man vs. machine tournament involving Ken Jennings and a quiz robot.

This means "Ken Jennings and a quiz robot" is no longer a redundant phrase. (ZING. Ken, call me.) IBM's artificial intelligence team has programmed a robot to compete with Jeopardy!'s two greatest champions: Ken Jennings, who holds the record longest winning streak, and Brad Rutter, who holds the record for most money earned. Named "Watson" for IBM founder Thomas J. Watson, the quizbot can parse natural language, acquire and analyze knowledge, and answer questions. It will be represented on screen with "a round avatar." The matches will air February 14-16. (Valentine's Day! Ken, call me.) [AP, video via IBM]
