Candidates for Republican party chairperson debated today! You all probably have it Tivo'd, so we don't want to spoil too much. But one lady candidate responded to a question about her "favorite bar," even though that question was never asked.

Ann Wagner, a candidate for RNC chairwoman whose background includes a high-stakes stint as the Ambassador to Luxembourg, overheard a question from moderators Tucker Carlson and Grover Norquist about everyone's favorite book as one about favorite bar. Her response to the bar question was a giggly "my kitchen table." (Thank god that this race is finally getting her out of the house during work hours.)

She quickly corrected herself and named George W. Bush's Decision Points as her actual favorite book. The kiss-ass who answered before her, "Reince Priebus," chose The Reagan Diaries. Since this has "Reagan" in the title, and Ronald Reagan > George W. Bush, he deserves to lead the Republican party more than Ann Wagner.

And it would've been funny enough if current, embattled RNC chair Michael Steele had said, dead-serious, "Ann's kitchen table is my favorite bar, too," even after the whole bar/book mix-up was clarified. But he managed to come up with something better:

Maria Cino's favorite is the classic To Kill a Mockingbird. Reince Priebus named The Reagan Diaries as his first choice. And current RNC Chairman Michael Steele's favorite is War and Peace.

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times," Steele recited — which is actually a line from Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities.
