Man Exchanges Gunfire With Cops Over Price of Burritos
A man in San Antonio brandished weapons at a Taco Bell, exchanged gunfire with police and spent three hours negotiating with a SWAT team from inside his hotel room. Because Taco Bell raised the price of the Beefy Crunch Burrito.
As the escalating conflict in Libya forces us to ask what justifies the use of force, we can all probably agree that this does not:
The price of the Beefy Crunch Burrito had gone up from 99 cents to $1.49 and the man at the Rigsby Road Taco Bell drive-thru had just ordered seven....
"They did use to be 99 cents, but that was just a promotion," [Restaurant manager Brian] Tillerson said. "He pointed a gun at me, and he fired it. I leaned to the side and there was a pop but nothing happened."
That particular weapon turned out to be a BB gun, but the suspect had some real guns too: An assault rifle and a handgun, which he briefly took out in the Taco Bell parking lot. After Tillerson called the police, the man drove off, only to be pulled over by three police officers. He and the officers shot at each other, as one does, before he drove off to his hotel room, wherein he barricaded himself away.
A SWAT team was called, and after three and a half hours of attempted negotiations, and, eventually, the use of tear gas, police were able to convince the man to leave his room. He did not, to the best of our knowledge, ever get his seven burritos.
