The parents of Tyler Clementi, the Rutgers University student who committed suicide after his roommate and another student broadcast his sexual encounter with another man on the internet, don't want the students involved to be given too "harsh" a punishment.

Jane and Joseph Clementi issued a statement today, six months after their son's death. Both roommate Dharun Ravi and classmate Molly Wei were charged with two counts of invasion of privacy in relation to Clementi's death. Although the parents aren't recommending a stern sentence, they still want the students prosecuted. "We feel it is important to establish accountability and to further establish that Tyler was subject to criminal acts, not merely a college prank as some may argue," said Paul Mainardi, the couple's attorney.

The Clementis also intend to start the Tyler Clementi Foundation, to help educate people about the dangers of bullying. Finally some good, and some leniency, will come out of the tragedy.
