It is with great sadness that we learned today that Sbarro Inc., purveyors of the very finest room-temperature pizza and congealed ziti known to mankind, are preparing to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The chain is $365 million in debt, and lawyers are working feverishly to hammer out a restructuring deal that would spare the legendary dough emporiums from extinction.

If you're anything like me, the threat of Sbarro's demise should instantly unleash a flood of memories about eating their terrible Italian food. In my case, it's the overstimulated bliss of visiting Times Square as a child, where I gnawed on a semi-petrified slice of Supreme as my family rushed to make a matinee performance of Mummenschanz. Cheesy, I know. (The story.) Then I had a dark Sbarro recollection: that of the 2001 suicide bombing at a Sbarro in Jerusalem that killed 15 and wounded 130.
