Rebecca Black Phenomenon to Somehow Get More Annoying
You hoped it was over, but Rebecca Black's moment will go on. Also today: Lincoln finds his wife, Nickelodeon shows both old and new receive some good news, a new ABC show receives some bad news, and Ellen Page is headed to be neurotic in Rome.
- Well, just when you thought that maybe the whole Rebecca Black "Friday" business had finally fallen into history's dustbin, it comes roaring back in, possibly, even more annoying fashion. How is that possible? Heh, they're putting that motherfucker on Glee. Not Ms. Black, mind you. Just the song. It's maybe going to appear in a prom-themed episode, possibly sung by Artie, Puck, and lady biglips herself, Chord Overstreet. Good god. Can you even imagine? Remember when Glee was a good show? By which I mean, remember 2009? The good old days. [Vulture]
- Other than that, Mrs. Field, how was the play? Yes, Sally Field has been tapped to play Mary Todd Lincoln in Steven Spielberg's upcoming Abraham Lincoln biopic. (Written by Tony Kushner!!) Though Field is 11 years older than her costar, Daniel Day Lewis, it's still good casting, as Mary Todd was known to fly around Washington with her big magic habit, only to alight on the beach for a groovy beach party. Get it? Sally Field jokes? Gidget? Sally Field jokes. [Deadline]
- Holy shit. Hey Dude, Nickelodeon's long-ago sitcom starring David Lascher and Ben Stiller's future wife, among others, is finally getting released on DVD. Finally! How long we've all waited. You know what's fucking horrifying? That show premiered twenty-two years ago. Twenty-two years ago! Twenty-two years. TWENTY-TWO YEARS. How is anything like that even possible? Statistically speaking, at least several people who worked on that show are now dead. That dog is definitely. Wonder if those man-eating jackrabbits finally got 'em. Twenty-two years. Sorry, having a mild freak out here. [EW]
- Uh oh. Brian's favorite new show Happy Endings didn't fare so well in the ratings department on its second outing last night. It "plummeted" twenty percent, in fact. Based on that post, I gave it a watch this afternoon (sue me, work) and it's not bad. Not as good as the OK-you're-right-it-was-sort-of-amusing-but-now-it's-gone-so-what-does-it-matter-anyway Perfect Couples, but amusing. Casey Wilson is likable on it. And hey, 8.4 million viewers is nothing to sneeze at, so maybe it'll keep going? Come on, ABC. Elisha Cuthbert really needs this one. [THR]
- Ellen Page has joined the cast of Woody Allen's new Rome-set movie, appearing alongside Penelope Cruz and Alec Baldwin. Two questions: 1) Does Woody Allen actually keep up on who's in these days, or does he have casting people do that for him? 2) Wouldn't Ellen Page sort of be one of the few lady actors you could see playing the archetypal Woody Allen part? Too bad Jesse Eisenberg is also in the movie, presumably to fill the role. [Deadline]
- Everyone get excited. And by "everyone" I mean all the ten-year-old girls reading this post. I have that broad of an audience, right? Good for ages 9 to 92! Anyway, listen up: Nickelodeon has renewed their gritty drama iCarly for a fifth season. You know what's terrifying? In like 2029, some about-to-be-28-year-old is going to be sklogging (that's what they'll call it) on their palm pod about how iCarly is available for brain app download and isn't it crazy that it premiered twenty-two years ago. "Remember TVs??? Remember Earth?? Man." [THR]
