Random Yale Undergrad Has Eliot Spitzer, Ex-Mexican President on Speed Dial
Some Yale undergrads dug through the cell phone, email and Facebook accounts of a classmate as part of a project, then posted what they discovered on a website for all to enjoy. Shock discovery: Yalies are obscenely well-connected.
Six Yale students in a computer science class wanted to study how much personal information was stored in our various accounts and gizmos. They somehow convinced a fellow undergrad, "Gavin," to turn over his smartphone and the passwords to his email and Facebook accounts. The students then snooped on Gavin and published a summary of what was in his email, Facebook and cell phone on a website.
Bottom line: "Gavin" must be the most boring college student in the Ivy League. The students tell Forbes it felt weird to go through his stuff, but the most incriminating thing they found in Gavin's hundreds of emails, Facebook messages and texts was some stuff about him illegally downloading music.
But take a look at some of the people they found on this kid's cell phone contact list:
- Eliot Spitzer
- Former Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo
- Famous Blogger Matt Yglesias
- Alexis Ohanian, Founder of Reddit
Yep, just a typical, random Yale student. Let's see someone try this same trick with a guy at a state school: Guarantee the majority of his contacts will be weed or pizza-related. [Forbes, image via Wikipedia]
