New York's state senate is set to vote on a bill legalizing gay marriage this week, the New York Times reports, and if just one more Republican state senator signs on, it will pass. The state assembly has already passed several gay marriage bills, and Gov. Andrew Cuomo has pledged to sign one, so the senate is its only hurdle. New York would be the largest state to legalize gay marriage.

The GOP-led senate has repeatedly blocked gay marriage bills in the past, but over the past few days a growing trickle of lawmakers—including Carl Kruger, the recently indicted corrupt conservative pol who was discovered to be secretly gay-married while opposing gay marriage— have switched sides. The most recent convert was Sen. Roy J. McDonald, who, according to Times reporter Danny Hakim's Twitter feed, described his thinking thusly: "Fuck it, I don't care what you think, I'm trying to do the right thing."

They should try it more often.
