At an auction of actress Debbie Reynolds' collection of old Hollywood costumes this weekend, someone purchased the famous Marilyn Monroe "subway dress" from the movie The Seven Year Itch for $4.6 million, which was well above the pre-sale estimate of $1-$2 million. In fact, all the clothes sold for prices well above what was predicted.

Reynolds reportedly paid $200 for the Monroe dress, which means she got about 17.5 billion percent return on her investment. Other items from her collection that took top dollar included Audrey Hepburn's Ascot dress from My Fair Lady ($3.7 million); Monroe's red sequin number from Gentleman Prefer Blondes ($1.2 million), and the blue dress Judy Garland wore in test shots for the Wizard of Oz ($910,000).

That's a whole lot of scratch these things are taking in! I'm gonna go right out and buy the CGI suit Debbie's great-grandson, Ryan, is wearing in the Green Lantern. I'm sure that will be worth billions some day.
