You can't say the Emmy nominations are ever shocking, but there were a few delightful surprises this morning when they were announced. All the usual suspects got nods, but a host of new shows cracked into the competition.

Mad Men had the most mentions of any show, 19, which is sort of like saying that Barack Obama has the Democratic nomination for president all sewn up. Newbies Game of Thrones (yay!) and Boardwalk Empire (boo!) also snagged nominations, but Game's fine ensemble only netted a mention for "the imp," Peter Dinklage, in the acting categories. Sadly, there were still a bunch of nominations for the hit-or-miss second season of Glee so we guess Ryan Murphy and crew aren't ever going to learn their lesson.

There were some other surprises in the acting categories, including potential trophies for Kathy Bates for Harry's Law, Louis CK for Louie, Matt LeBlanc for Episodes, and Andre Braugher from Men of a Certain Age. They also made our dreams come true and nominated Martha Plimpton for Raising Hope. Also the Academy of TV Sciences also finally recognized the brilliance of So You Think You Can Dance and its host Cat Deeley, so hurray for that.
