People Are Buying Books Because of a Celebrity Baby Name
Apparently sales of the book To Kill a Mockingbird have skyrocketed 123 percent on Amazon.co.uk after "footie" star David Beckham and his wife Victoria, the Posh of Spice, named their daughter "Harper." Now that Oprah has retired, an author's only hope for a bestseller is getting a celeb baby named after them.
David said on Facebook that the name came from Harper Lee, who is Victoria's favorite author, probably because she only wrote one book and that was all Vicki could be bothered to read. Which is the ultimate irony, because who ever thought the Beckhams would be getting people to read works of literature. You figured they'd name their baby Fendi or Aquavelva or something like that. Still, no one is sure if this celebrity babies influencing book sales is a coincidence or a trend. After all, sales of the Bible didn't surge after Gwyneth Paltrow named her baby Moses. Take that, Gwyneth!
