Singer Amy Winehouse Dead at 27
British pop singer Amy Winehouse was found dead in her London home today, various news outlets are reporting.
No cause has been determined yet. Police officers found Winehouse at around 4 PM London time after someone called for an ambulance.
The news probably won't come as a shock to anyone who has followed Winehouse's career—which, sadly, was constantly jeopardized by her ongoing substance abuse issues and intertwined relationship dramas with her ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil. Earlier this week, Winehouse appeared at a performance by her teenage goddaughter, Dionne Bromfield, at which she reportedly "'staggered onstage and grabbed the mic to beg the crowd to buy her protege's new album'"; video footage shows Winehouse looking pretty out of it. A few weeks ago she canceled a European tour.
Winehouse was an incredibly gifted singer who was unfortunately haunted by demons she just couldn't shake. At least now she is at peace.
