Polygamist leader and statutory rapist Warren Jeffs has been sentenced to life in prison for sexual assaulting a 12- and 14-year-old as part of a "spiritual marriage." A hoax crime tip led to a raid on Jeffs' Texas compound in 2008; the fallout, however, has been very real.

During Jeffs' trial—at which he defended himself, poorly—the prosecution presented DNA evidence that Jeffs had fathered a child with a 15-year-old, as well as audio recordings of Jeffs assaulting a 12-year-old bride (above: portraits from their "first anniversary") and instructing five adolescent girls to "set aside all your inhibitions" during "heavenly sessions" with their husbands, lest they be "rejected by God."
