Pope Benedict XVI — voice of the common man — had some choice words for Europe's economic policymakers today as he traveled to the Catholic Church's World Youth Day in Spain. And why not? They certainly deserve it.

The Pope suggested some nice things. For instance, the economy should be driven not by profit, but "according to the common good" of mankind. He also said this: "The economy doesn't function with market self-regulation but needs an ethical reason to work for mankind." Interesting. In terms of self-regulation being useless, well, the same could be said for a lot of institutions, no? Like, say, ones that are supposed to investigate their buddies for decades of alleged criminal activity? Just saying.
