California Wants to Ban Styrofoam Now
Oh, California. Why so uptight about everything? Whether it's a city or the entire state, someone's always trying to ban something. Now, the state's latest target is Styrofoam. From the AP:
The bill by Democratic state Sen. Alan Lowenthal, would prohibit restaurants, grocery stores and other vendors from dispensing food in expanded polystyrene containers, commonly known as Styrofoam, beginning in 2016. If signed into law, the measure would make California the first to institute a statewide ban on such containers.
Cool. Way to take all of the fun out of getting Chinese takeout and watching the Styrofoam bubble up and sort of melt into your food. And besides, some guy from the National Toxicology Program told the AP that the health risks from Styrofoam are "not worth being concerned about." That's good enough for me. Hands off my takeout, California.
