Rick Perry's Wife: We've Been 'Brutalized' Over Our 'Faith'
Rick Perry's wife, Anita, has an explanation for his terrible collapse in presidential polls over the last month: That Perry has been "brutalized," by everyone, over his deep faith to God. This is a questionable assertion!
Speaking at North Greenville University in South Carolina on Thursday, Anita Perry, the wife of GOP candidate Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX), admitted "it's been a rough month" for her husband's campaign. "We've been brutalized and eaten up and chewed up in the press," she said.
Ha, indeed. Go on?
"It is a comfort to know that I am in this place where I can feel the presence of God. We are being brutalized by our opponents, and our own party," she said. "So much of that is, I think they look at him because of his faith."
Going out on a limb here, but we do not think that Rick Perry's troubles with the Republican primary electorate have much to do with their opposition to evangelical Christianity. It's more about his love of giving illegal immigrants' children born in this country access to in-state college tuition, and his inability to speak during nationally televised debates. Rick Perry's Jesus, on the other hand, is still quite popular among the base.
