Libyan officials have confirmed that Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi is dead, shot in the head during fighting in his hometown of Sirte. The first images of his body have emerged. Graphic images ahead.

The first picture on your right was broadcast on Al Jazeera. The second is from Al Arabya.

Abubaker Saad, a former Gaddafi associate, told CNN he was 90% sure it was Gaddafi in a similar photo posted by that news organization.

Al Jazeera also has some gruesome video of Gaddafi being dragged around by rebels.

Update: Libya's prime minister gave a press conference and confirmed that Gaddafi was killed. "We have been waiting for this moment for a long time. Muammar Qaddafi has been killed," said Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril.
