Prosecutors Must Name Gay Lover in Rutgers Suicide Case
A judge ruled today that prosecutors must release the name of the man who Tyler Clementi was having sex with when his roommate at Rutgers University, Dharun Ravi, broadcast their sexual activity over the internet.
Ravi (pictured above) is currently on trial for bias intimidation and invasion of privacy after Clementi killed himself as a result of the broadcast.
The man's identity won't become public knowledge, though: His real name will only be revealed to the defense attorneys and their investigators so they can further their case against the state. Clementi's death was one of the many gay teen suicides that launched the culture's current (justifiable) preoccupation with bullying. Today is the second annual Spirit Day, when people are encouraged to wear purple to show their support for gay youth. What a way to celebrate!
