The New York Times Style Section—where "Cool" lives!—has a 1,000 word story today about an unremarkable church in Brooklyn. What's that about? Oh—it's a "hipster" church. Allow the NYT to prove it!

1. "[A] crowd of more than 100 men and women in their 20s and early 30s gathered."
2. "[They] were wearing high-waisted skinny jeans, vintage T-shirts and deliberately homely sweaters."
3. "One woman in a floral romper, her platinum-blond hair cut in a shag, carried a Bob Seger vinyl record under her arm."
4. "[A] man with a tattoo and a shaved head, Thomas Vito Aiuto, gave a talk that referred in turn to Woody Allen, jogging and London cabdrivers." (You may not have known these were hipster Brooklyn signifiers, but the NYT believes they are.)
5. "'I don't want this church to be special,' he said over chicken mole at a Williamsburg taqueria."
6. "And I think our music is really good."
7."[He] made a rude gesture while illustrating a point about the parable of the prodigal son"
8. "[The preacher] and his wife are unabashedly Midwestern, ordinary and uncool."
9. "[The preacher's last gospel] album, 'Welcome to the Welcome Wagon,' was recorded for Asthmatic Kitty, the label partly owned by the indie music star Sufjan Stevens"
10. "'In some ways, I'm a hipster, depending on how you use the term,' he said."
11. "I'm trying to battle the trend of irony and sarcasm and not meaning what you're really trying to say."

Haha, sounds like a hipster church trying to pretend like it's not a hipster church! Someone should write a trend story about that.
