This week we had some issues with how people talk about transgender Americans. It's like Work It up in here or something. But that wasn't the real problem. The real problem was people seeing something and not saying something.

Actually it was people seeing something, saying something, but not actually doing anything.

There were two rather offensive comments not using the proper pronoun for someone who does not identify with her biological gender. On a post about David O. Russell's transgender niece AJ_Bee said, "I know the headline was intended to titillate (hah), but she/he/it is 19, which is barely a 'teen,' and by common usage, isn't really a teen at all." He later apologized for calling her an "it," but his star was taken away as punishment.

On a post about a crazed butt doctor who was performing illegal surgery, ToldYouSo said, "This is a photo of the Dr. which is oddly shows shim did it to itself also." He showed no remorse and was banned.

These comments are obviously offensive (for the record, always refer to a transgender person using the gender he or she identifies with, no the one he or she was born with), but what is even more offensive is the rash of "Ooooooh, the Banhammer is going to fall on you!!!" comments that follow either anything like this, or comments that people disagree with. This is not the way to get someone banned. The way to get someone banned is by emailing executions@gawker.com with a link to the offensive comment and letting us know what is up.

Someone eventually did send these comments to that address and they were addressed and those people will be given stars. However, TheDevilChef, Olive, and rickstone had the energy to be all "OOOOH, Banhammer," but not the energy to actually submit someone for the Banhammer. If you want someone banned, you don't need to make a big scene about it, and you certainly shouldn't respond to them and fuel their comment. You should just report them and it will be dealt with. Period. No more, "I'm telling!" like a bunch of eight-year-olds who got upset at recess.

Oh and people who don't get jokes also better watch out, because the Banhammer will fall on you without notice, and without anyone telling on you. You've been warned.

A Few Notes & How to Submit Nominations

All decisions about commenter executions are final. There is no appeal, though bribery is sometimes acceptable depending on the severity of the offense and the amount of the bribe. Executed commenters may be allowed back after a suitable period of exile.

Because this process is to better the community, citizen's arrests for unruly commenters are welcome and encouraged. Executions can be based on a single incident or general and prolonged suckiness. Please submit your nominations to executions@gawker.com.

Please include your rationale for execution and a link to the specific comment (you can get the direct link by clicking on the comment's timestamp) for evidence. Any commenter who submits a successful accusation for execution will be rewarded and deputized with a gold star. Happy commenting, and follow the damn rules!
