Beef: It's What's For Dinner—Provided You Can Afford Its Record Price These Days. That is the slogan that Big Beef doesn't want you hearing. But facts are facts, folks: "Retail beef prices, now near record levels, will likely rise 4% to 5% this year following a 10% increase in 2011."

The beef items that you purchase this year will cost you more money than ever before, necessitating either a decline in your beef consumption or a marked increase in the percentage of your personal budget dedicated to beef purchases. Either way, the fact is, beef is expensive these days. That's really all there is to it. Savor that flavor if you want—but don't forget your wallet. You'll need it—or, more specifically, its contents. Not the ID cards—the cash. To pay—for beef.
