The Odds Are Still in The Hunger Games' Favor
While tremendous box office success from Mirror Mirror would make a hilarious April Fool's joke, that's just not the case. For the second weekend in a row, The Hunger Games trounced the competition, earning $61.1 million. The film has now grossed more than $250 million with record-breaking speed.
To be fair, Mirror Mirror didn't totally flop, although it's certainly a financial disappointment.
The kid-friendly take on Snow White failed to crack $20 million despite showing at more than 3,600 theaters and costing in the neighborhood of $80 million.
And Wrath of the Titans, the sequel to 2010's Clash of the Titans remake, earned $34.2 million. Let's not forget that it has the unfair ticket price-hiking advantage of being in 3D. It's also worth noting that the 2010 flick grossed $61.2 million its opening weekend. Perhaps that film's reviews help account for weak sequel numbers?
Oh, and in case you weren't sufficiently impressed, the worldwide gross for The Hunger Games currently stands at $365 million.
