Well This Is Depressing: CU Boulder's 'Falling Bear' Struck And Killed by Cars on Highway
The 280-pound black bear that captivated a nation with its tranquilized tumble off a tree near the CU Boulder dorms in Williams Village last week has sadly been recalled to Bear Heaven after being struck by two cars early yesterday morning.
Authorities identified the bear using a tag that was attached to its ear after the incident on April 26th. It had been relocated to an area of wilderness some 50 miles west of the city, but had wandered back to U.S. 36, where it was struck by two cars and perished.
"It's a bummer," Colorado Parks and Wildlife spokeswoman Jennifer Churchill told the Boulder Daily Camera. "It's so hard to go through this and not be able to give these bears a good place to live."
One of the drivers involved in the accident sustained minor injuries; the second driver was not hurt, but his car was totaled.
