Mugly, maybe a contraction for more ugly, beat out 28 other contestants to become the World's Ugliest Dog. Like last year's winner, Mugly is a Chinese Crested and from the UK.

The annual contest takes place in Petaluma, California and it sounds incredible. This year's host was pet psychic animal communicator Sonya Fitzpatrick. Don't worry, she told guests, the 29 contestants aren't offended by the ugly title at all. According to the competition's site:

Contestants are judged for natural ugliness in both pedigree and mutt classes and then those class winners compete for $500 and a trophy. Then the winner of this round goes up against the Ring of Champions—dogs who have claimed the title in past years. This year's Ring of Champions consists of 2002 winner, Rascal, and 2010 winner, Princess Abby.

In addition to $1000, a photoshoot, a VIP stay at the Sheraton Petaluma, and a year's supply of dog treats, Mugly, like the winners to precede him, will "enjoy fame as the World's Ugliest Dog, hitting the talk show circuit [to likely] become a star at local dog events."
