In the spirit of this weekend's smash hits: fuck you, Pixar.

Seth MacFarlane's talking teddy bear comedy Ted earned $54.1 million, beating The Hangover's debut and coming just behind The Hangover II and Sex and the City for biggest R-rated opening ever.

Box office analysts credit the film's surprising success with Family Guy fans, though let's not rule out plushies.

And women deserve much of the credit for Magic Mike earning the second-place spot with a well-endowed $39.2 million — ladies made up 73 percent of the audience. (The rest were gay men and awesome straight dudes.)

Both films did much better than anticipated. Their numbers are especially impressive because they were competing against a family-friendly Pixar film. Brave still made it to third place with $34 million, but it dropped 49 percent from last weekend. I guess parents left their kids at home this time.

The other movie opening this weekend, Tyler Perry's Madea's Last Resort, did pretty well in fourth place. At $26.4 million, it actually shows improvement for the franchise: last year's Madea's Big Happy Family took in $25.1 million opening weekend. If you were hoping Tyler Perry would stop dressing up as the voluptuous matron, you're out of luck.
