New York City Taxis Set to Get More Expensive
In addition to being totally disgusting and filthy, New York City taxis are about to get significantly more expensive. Starting in September, cab rates will rise 17% per mile, and the flat rate between Manhattan and JFK will increase from $45 to $52. The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission voted on the measure Thursday, with six members in favor, two against, and one member abstaining.
The vote was seen as a major victory for taxi drivers, who will receive the entire 17% fare increase, their first raise in six years.
