Fred Willard in First Sit-Down Interview Since Lewd Conduct Arrest: 'It's Embarrassing as Hell'
Walking out onto the set of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to the tune of the theme song from Diff'rent Strokes, actor Fred Willard last night made his first public appearance since being arrested for lewd conduct inside an adult movie theater in Hollywood.
The chain-yanking didn't quite end there: Fallon inquired which film it was that got Willard in trouble — The Firm? Free Willy? Anaconda? "No," said Willard. "It was Get Shorty." Responded Fallon: "But I think at the end of that movie someone gets whacked."
With the prerequisite Pee-wee Herman moment over, Willard retreated to his insistence that nothing happened. "I did nothing wrong," he said, "everything's being sorted out as we speak."
Though he conceded that the whole affair is "embarrassing as hell," Willard chalked it up to being "in the wrong place at the wrong time." Still, "it's very embarrassing," he said, "very painful," but he's "trying to laugh it off."
And to prove it, Willard concluded with a Yelp review: "interesting theater, boring movie, and a great place to take a nap."
