To Win Battle for Minds of Dish Network Customers, AMC Sics Zombies on Unsuspecting New Yorkers
A new viral marketing campaign produced by ad agency Thinkmodo for AMC asks the question: "Could zombies live among us?"
To find out, the firm released 13 actors disguised as brain-feasting ghouls onto the streets of New York to see if anyone would notice.
Surprisingly, some did.
The campaign is part of AMC's effort to get its channels back on Dish Network, which blacked them out about a month ago, ostensibly over unacceptably high programming fees.
The company hopes the use of imagery from its flagship network's popular zombie series The Walking Dead will convince subscribers to put pressure on Dish to end the dispute.
The Walking Dead returns to AMC October 14th; additional viral "experiments" are expected to be unleashed between now and then.
