In an interview with Variety earlier this week, AMC Theatres CEO Adam Aron seemed to submit to the imaginary collective will of “Millennials — who live on social media,” by teasing a pretty bad idea: Allowing people to text during the movie. Many people got very mad and AMC immediately backed down, tweeting this morning: “NO TEXTING AT AMC. Won’t happen. You spoke. We listened.”
Listen, I know we’re all excited about seeing The Transporter Refueled and Maze Runner: Scorch Trials (???) this weekend, but we might have to watch that double feature somewhere besides our favorite movie theater in our favorite New York City neighborhood. According to multiple disturbing reports, the Times Square AMC Empire 25 is infested with bugs.
During a Breaking Bad marathon last night, AMC slipped in a few seconds of the show's upcoming spin-off Better Call Saul, which is set to bow in February. It features Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) making a lame joke comparing lawyers to health insurance. (I think the joke is that Saul makes bad jokes.)
Last night, AMC debuted the series Freakshow, a reality show about the Venice Beach Freakshow. Its owner, former Grammy-winning producer Todd Ray (Santana, Korn), believes in reclaiming "freak" as a "positive word." "We're trying to bring it back, but we're trying to celebrate the differences," he told the tallest man in America, George Bell, who joined his crew.
Mad Men is all set to perform a tipsy cha-cha-cha back onto our TV screens for its penultimate season April 7. In the meantime, AMC has released a slew of promotional pictures designed to remind everyone very clearly that this show features beautiful costumes, beautiful people, and lots of cigarettes.

During this season of Breaking Bad, the first half of the show's fifth and final, Walter and Skyler White asked her sister Marie and her DEA agent husband Hank to accept increasingly outlandish (and fraudulent) behavior wholesale. Walter had a fake breakdown in Hank's office so that he could plant a microphone in it. Skyler, meanwhile, freaked out at Marie (in the instantly meme-worthy, "Shut up!" outburst) and then went seemingly catatonic in a pool during Walter's 51st birthday dinner. A cover-up so ridiculous hasn't been devised since Walter's Season 2 "fugue state" nonsense. All these lies have been in service of making the couple appear to be socially acceptable messes, and not the outlaw messes that they actually are.
North America's two largest movie theater chains, AMC and Regal Cinemas, released statements Friday afternoon updating their policies on acceptable theater attire.
GLAAD points out that AMC's new Small Town Security is the only reality show that is currently featuring a trans man in its cast. That's great. "Lieutenant" Dennis Croft's portrayal is sensitive (at least it was in last night's series premiere) and allows him to articulate his transitioning, his gender identity, his lack of choice in the matter and all of those other things that deserve mentioning and repeating. It's an uncharacteristically even-handed move for the genre.
Since Dish Network no longer carries AMC due to a dispute with its parent company, AMC Networks, customers fully expected to be left out of Sunday's highly anticipated premiere of Breaking Bad's fifth season.
