Bank Manager Forced to Rob Own Bank After Gunmen Strap 'Bomb' to Her Stomach
A Bank of America branch manager claims she was ordered to rob her own East LA bank after masked gunmen kidnapped her and strapped a device they said was a bomb to her stomach.
32-year-old Aurora Barrera was reportedly taken hostage by the two men Tuesday night at her Huntington Park home and brought to the bank the following morning with an alleged explosive device attached to her body.
"She was told that it was explosives and she was ordered to go into the bank and take out all the money," LA County sheriff's Capt. Mike Parker told the Associated Press. "She did do that in fear for her life."
The bomb squad later determined that the device was not a bomb, but by then the robbers were long gone with "a decent amount" of money.
The suspects remain at large; investigators say they are looking into the possibility that the women knew her captors.
