Singer-songwriter Randy Newman, best known today for his contributions to the soundtrack of Pixar's Toy Story franchise, scored a hit way back in 1972 with "Political Science" — a satirical send-up of American foreign policy that invites warmongers to "drop the big one and see what happens."

Returning to his satirist roots, Newman yesterday released a brand new political song, this one calling — facetiously, of course — for the reinstatement of a white president for the good of the country.

"I'm dreaming of a white President," Newman croons in the song of the same name, "just like the ones we've always had."

Newman told Slate and Nonesuch that the song is a reaction to the radicalization of the Republican Party and the discomfort "a lot of people" seem to feel about "a black person in the White House."
