Friday Night Lights franchise creator Peter Berg is taking serious issue with the Romney campaign's re-purposing of his show's signature quote, "Clear Eyes. Full Hearts. Can't Lose."

The GOP nominee has uttered the phrase several times in stump speeches and it also appears, at the time of writing, in the banner image on his official Facebook page.

In a letter sent to the Romney campaign [pdf], Berg says Romney's incorporation of Coach Taylor's immortal words into his rhetoric "falsely and inappropriately associates Friday Night Lights with the Romney/Ryan campaign."

He continues:

Your politics and campaign are clearly not aligned with the themes we portrayed in our series. The only relevant comparison that I see between your campaign and Friday Night Lights is in the character of Buddy Garrity - who turned his back on American car manufacturers selling imported cars from Japan.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that Romney is a fan of the show, and Berg's cousin, Buzz Bissinger, who wrote the book on which the movie and show are based, is an outspoken supporter of the governor and his campaign.
