The two DJs behind the Kate Middleton hospital prank, now being blamed as a contributing factor to her nurse's suicide, have either deleted their verified Twitter accounts, or had them removed.

The deletions have led some, including New York Magazine, to speculate that the Mel Greig ("Queen Elizabeth") and Michael Christian ("Prince Charles") have been fired.

TMZ says it placed a call to Australia's 2DAY FM radio station earlier today in order to speak with the DJs, and were informed by the executive producer that they will not be taking any calls:

"I advise you to stop trying to call them."

The radio station says it is preparing a statement regarding the announcement of Nurse Jacintha Saldanha's death. We'll update when it's released.

UPDATE:
The DJs are suspending themselves until further notice.

This from a just-released statement by Southern Cross Austereo, the company that owns 2Day FM:

"Chief executive officer Rhys Holleran has spoken with the presenters. They are both deeply shocked and at this time we have agreed that they not comment about the circumstances. SCA and the hosts have decided that they will not return to their radio show until further notice out of respect for what can only be described as a tragedy."

The company also said that it was "deeply saddened" by Saldanha's death, "and we extend our deepest sympathies to her family and all that have been affected by this situation around the world".
