Celebrity Chefs Join 13-Year-Old's Charge for a Gender-Neutral Easy Bake Oven
McKenna Pope, a 13-year-old from New Jersey, has started an online petition to get Hasbro to create a gender-neutral Easy Bake Oven. As of Wednesday afternoon, the petition has more than 41,000 signatures, along with the support of several celebrity chefs.
McKenna's mission started when she went out to buy one of the plastic monstrosities for her younger brother, but was surprised to find they're only sold in pink and purple. She posted a video and an online petition about two weeks ago.
Bobby Flay was the first chef to lend his support. Then yesterday, his PR firm posted a video on YouTube featuring several chefs—including Michael Lomonaco of Top Chef—lending their support to McKenna's cause.
Hasbro refused to comment on an Associated Press story about the petition, but McKenna's mother, Erica Boscio, did say that McKenna has been invited to meet with company executives next Monday.
