A student was shot in the back of the neck, apparently by a fellow student, at the at Price Middle School in Atlanta on Thursday afternoon, and a teacher sustained "minor scrapes and bruises" after being trampled during the aftermath. The underage victim was admitted to Grady Memorial Hospital, and is "awake and breathing," according to Atlanta Public Schools; the teacher was treated on-scene.

Police are on the scene responding, and reportedly have a suspect in custody. According to some reports, the shooting arose out of a fight on school grounds.

UPDATE 3:50 p.m. EST: 11 Alive reports the student was a boy and he was awake on the way to the hospital. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

UPDATE 4:35 p.m. EST: Atlanta Public Schools has confirmed that the victim and the suspect in custody are both students at Prince Middle School.

UPDATE 6:45 p.m. EST: Atlanta's police chief says the shooter was disarmed by an armed guard working at the school. Police think the victim was targeted and that the shooting wasn't random.
