Beautiful Mind James Franco Explains Anne 'Hathahaters'
In 2011, America's most cherished treasures, acTORS James Franco and Anne Hathaway, hosted the Oscars. They didn't do a great job, but everyone's since moved on. We don't spend too much time psychoanalyzing the relationship of Anne Hathaway and James Franco, two people who don't seem to know each other that well.
Until now.
Yesterday, while a guest on The Howard Stern Show, Franco waded deep into the bog of Hathahate.
Things got off to a weird start when Stern brought up the subject of the botched Oscars gig.
"She does not want me talking about this," said Franco of Hathaway, "but okay."
Wait, did Anne Hathaway warn James Franco never to discuss that thing they did one night when she was drunk? (Host the Oscars?) Why?
Stern launched into a brief explanation of that certain je ne said quois Anne Hathaway possesses that inspires vivid dislike: "Everyone sort of hates Anne Hathaway...I do too and I don't know even know why sometimes....She comes off like the goody two-shoes actress and it's just fun to sort of hate her."
And Franco agreed with his assessment.
"I'm not an expert on — I guess they're called 'Hathahaters'— but I think that's what maybe triggers it"
Nothing proves you are not an expert quite like using a niche term unknown to people outside the field in which you are not an expert.
Franco also said that he and Anne "made up," after the Oscars and added "She wasn't mad at me, I don't think... she didn't say she was mad at me for what happened…"
"...for what happened..."?
This is like going through old photos with your mom, and you pull out one of you smiling behind the wheel of a gleaming white Barbie jeep and you say "Oh! Remember that Christmas?" and she says "Yeah, that was a difficult holiday," and you're like "What?" and she's like "I can't believe your father didn't go to jail" and you're like "WHAT?"
What happened at the Oscars? Was Anne Hathaway mad at James Franco because his catatonic appearance made it necessary for her to serve up her ham with an extra side of ham, forever cementing her reputation as the suck-uppiest suck-up at theater camp? Did she think he had sabotaged the night on purpose just to mess with her?
When Stern asked if the pair were still friendly, Franco admitted they "haven't talked in a while."
Yeah, no duh.
