The Ted Cruz campaign is reportedly “vetting” former corporate executive and failed presidential candidate Carly Fiorina as a potential running mate, according to The Weekly Standard. We can save them some trouble.

“Vetting” is the process of performing a background check on potential candidates (or job-seekers or appointees) to see what sorts of attacks they will be subject to and what negative stories from their pasts will surface.

Apart from some mildly tawdry ancient history, here is what the vetting of Carly Fiorina will show:

Carly Fiorina used to be the CEO of a company called Hewlett-Packard, or HP. As CEO, she drove HP into the ground, laid off 30,000 people, and still left with a $40 million golden parachute. In a hypothetical presidential campaign in which she was on a ticket, her opponents would mention all of that—especially the part where she laid off 30,000 people—quite a lot.

What’s easier than running against Ted Cruz? Running against Ted Cruz and Carly Fiorina.
