Escaped murderer Richard Matt’s DNA has been discovered in a second cabin in Franklin County, New York, according to the Press Republican.

“Informed sources” told the paper that the DNA was confirmed as Matt’s Thursday night. Police reportedly searched the cabin, located in Malone, N.Y., after noticing signs of forced entry.

“They were there all night, from yesterday afternoon, evening. They didn’t leave here until about 7 o’clock this morning,” Donald Silver, who lives near the cabin, told the Press Republican. “They told me they’re trying to control [the convicts] from moving any further north. There’s a lot of woods here. They can sneak through pretty easily.”

From the Press Republican:

Silver suspects the two escaped killers are using the camps to resupply themselves in a survival strategy that would help them evade capture during the day, especially if they hide out in one of the scores of cabins in the area.

“You know, there’s so many camps here.

“In these camps, there’s a lot of extra clothes; they’ll probably have rain-wear stored inside that (the escapees) could take.”

In speaking with law-enforcement officers, Silver said some search teams from other regions in New York are struck by the wilderness setting and the deep, dark woods.

“I was talking to them last night, a CO told me he never seen the woods so damn thick,” he said.

On Saturday, police found traces of Matt and David Sweat’s DNA in a cabin in Mountain View, N.Y., which is about 14 miles from Malone. Earlier this week, authorities said Matt and Sweat are likely armed and possibly injured.
