Bring Back Our Girls Protests Banned In Nigerian Capital
Barely a week after telling the press that the 276 abducted girls had been found, the Nigerian police force has banned related protests in the Nigerian capital. It has been nearly two months since the girls were abducted.
Police Commissioner Joseph Mbu said in a statement Monday that the protests, which have been happening around the Nigerian capital of Abuja, are "now posing a serious security threat."
As reported in CNN, he continued,
"Information reaching us is that too soon dangerous elements will join the groups under the guise of protest and detonate explosive(s) aimed at embarrassing the government. Accordingly protests on the Chibok Girls is hereby banned with immediate effect."
Mbu also went on to say that he could not "fold [his] hands and watch this lawlessness."
The popular hashtag #BringBackOurGirls is still alive on Twitter, however, and will perhaps begin to see a resurgence in the wake of this news.
