Did Pope Francis Perform an Exorcism?
Did Pope Francis just perform an exorcism or do people just freak out when they see the Pope?
After Sunday's Pentecost Mass, Pope Francis was blessing children with disabilities. He approached one young man in a wheelchair and laid his hands on his head—then the young man heaved, convulsed, and slumped over as Francis kept praying. Then there was a mysterious exchange of papers. Then Pope Francis moved along all casual like to bless the next boy. The clip is above and also here—it's in Italian, which totally increases the dramatic effect.
The AP reports that the television station that covers Italian bishop's conference spoke to some exorcists, who confirmed that it was for sure either an exorcism or a general prayer to free the young man "from the devil."
The Vatican was not so explicit, but hinted that sometimes these things just happen. On Tuesday, they stated that Pope Francis, "didn't intend to perform any exorcism. But as he often does for the sick or suffering, he simply intended to pray for someone."
Apparently, Pope Francis is kind of obsessed with the devil and talks about him a lot.
