Drunk Guy in Street Sweeper Leads Police on Low-Speed Chase
He just wanted some candy. According to the New York Post, that's what a drunk Brooklyn man told authorities after leading them on a thrilling five-minute, 35 mph street sweeper chase on Thursday.
"He works for a company doing this, and he has no license," a police source told the paper. "He said he was going to buy candy and got lost."
48-year-old Jerry Mitchell's altered sense of direction might explain why cops found the street cleaner in Nassau County, some 20 miles away from the Brooklyn mall where employees reportedly saw Mitchell "doing doughnuts" earlier that evening.
Mitchell now faces charges of Aggravated DWI and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation. It is unknown whether he was able to find candy.
