Donald Trump continues to shore up support in the coveted “openly white supremacist” demographic this week, as former KKK Grand Wizard (and former Louisiana state congressman!) David Duke urges his supporters to vote for the man with the orange face.

“Voting for these people, voting against Donald Trump at this point is really treason to your heritage,” Duke said on his online radio show yesterday, BuzzFeed notes. He added that he supports Trump’s candidacy, but that he was not giving the candidate a formal endorsement. That sort of seems like splitting hairs, but OK.

According to Duke, his listeners will “meet people who are going to have the same kind of mindset that you have” if they volunteer on Trump’s campaign, and he’s right about that. Previously, American National Super PAC, a white nationalist group, ran a robocall campaign urging Iowa primary voters to go with Trump, calling him America’s “Great White Hope.”

Trump rejected that endorsement, but not in a particularly convincing way. “I would disavow it, but nothing in this country shocks me. People are angry. They’re angry at what’s going on. They’re angry at the border,” he told CNN’s Erin Burnett.

Any other candidate would immediately and thoroughly was their hands of any formal support from white nationalists, but Trump not so much—when he talks about Mexicans committing rapes and creating a national registry of Muslims, these are exactly the sorts of people he’s talking to.
