John Oliver just popped in from his winter Last Week Tonight hiatus to take a strong stance against an egregious overuse of presidential power that's been going on too long in this country: The annual Thanksgiving turkey pardon.

It's infuriating that these turkeys get to circumvent due process and get off scot free when they're so clearly guilty of being juicy and delicious. What kind of message does that send to the innocent victims? Namely: John Oliver, who really wanted to eat that turkey.

Oliver's surprise declaration of war on turkeys comes during a long hiatus for Last Week Tonight, which won't return until February. In the meantime, Oliver is on tour doing standup.
