Instagram Took Down Chelsea Handler's Topless Pic Three Times
Chelsea Handler's bare breasts were on Instagram for roughly half an hour Thursday night after she shared a topless photo of herself riding a horse.
The pic was a protest against an unfair double standard: Vladimir Putin can freely post his moobs on horseback anywhere online without fear of censorship, but a lady's nipples are still considered obscene by many websites. And Chelsea Handler's are, too.
"Anything a man can do, a woman has the right to do better #kremlin," she wrote.
Instagram made Handler's point for her by quickly taking down the photo. She tried reuploading it with a new caption: "Taking this down is sexist. I have every right to prove I have a better body than Putin," but that one didn't last either.
After posting the takedown notice Instagram sent her, about "keeping Instagram safe," (because boobies are dangerous!) she tried a third time to get her nipples back up on the site.
"If instagram takes this down again, you're saying Vladimir Putin Has more 1st amendment rights than me. Talk to your bosses," she wrote.
You can guess what happened to that third photo.
Handler is the latest in a small group of celebrities fighting for nipple equality. Scout Willis, daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, walked (legally) topless around NYC and posted the photos to Instagram as part of the Free the Nipple movement. Instagram took those down, too. Miley Cyrus and Cara Delevigne have also publicly supported the campaign.
