Kelly Rowland, who knows Beyoncé, has given birth to a son with her husband/manager Tim Witherspoon. They have named the baby Titan Jewell.

"Titan" is a name heavy with meaning, especially for a little baby. It is Saturn's largest moon, some Greeks, and also a football team in Tennessee. As Baby Name Critic, I cannot object to any of those associations, I can only pause at the possible nicknames that Titan might provoke. Tit. Tite. Titty. Not good.

And then there's Jewell. Spelled with one "l," I would congratulate the Rowland-Witherspoons on naming their progeny, wisely, after the Alaskan chanteuse. Spelled with two, however, the name evokes only Richard Jewell, the man wrongfully suspected in the 1996 terrorist bombing at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta. A very sad story and a very sad name for a baby.

This has been Baby Name Critic.
