Following her death on Monday from an apparent suicide, New York designer L’Wren Scott was largely eulogized for her decade-long romantic relationship with Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones. According to the New York Post, however, Scott “told a longtime friend from her native Utah last week that the legendary Stones frontman had dumped her.” The Post did not name the friend.

Jagger quickly denied the split through a spokesperson:

Jagger’s rep insisted that the Hall of Fame rocker and Scott—who began dating in 2001—were “absolutely” still a couple when she died. “A split between Mick Jagger and L’Wren Scott is 100 percent untrue,” a spokesman said. “There is absolutely no basis in fact to this story. It is a horrible and inaccurate piece of gossip during this very tragic time for Mick.”

Scott’s death came a month after she abruptly scrapped her runway show at London Fashion Week in favor of a social media-based campaign, a move tied to outstanding debts totaling $6 million. “L’Wren’s business just crashed,” an unnamed source told the Post.

It’s not clear whether her business troubles led to Scott’s death, though. Jagger’s net worth hovers around $300 million, and—if he and Scott were in fact still a couple—he would have likely extended her credit to balance her accounts. (Update: Scott reportedly refused to ask Jagger to help her settle her business debts.)
