Navy Yard Shooting Suspect's Mother: "I Am So, So Very Sorry"
The mother of Aaron Alexis, the man suspected of killing 12 people and wounding eight others in Monday's Navy Yard shooting, gave a statement to the press today condemning her deceased son's alleged actions and saying she is "so, so very sorry."
At a news conference at her home in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, Cathleen Alexis, who was accompanied by bishops from the Brooklyn Clergy-NYPD Task Force, was almost moved to tears as she read the following:
Our son, Aaron Alexis, has murdered 12 people and wounded several others. His actions have had a profound and everlasting effect on the families of the victims. I don't know why he did what he did and I'll never be able to ask him why. Aaron is now in a place where he can no longer do harm to anyone, and for that I am glad. To the families of the victims, I am so, so very sorry that this has happened. My heart is broken.
