Netanyahu Clarifies That Nazis, as Well as Palestinians, Were to Blame for the Holocaust
In the wake of his widely condemned remarks last week—remarks that seemed to play right into the hands of Holocaust deniers and revisionists—Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would like to offer a few points of clarification: 1) The Nazis definitely did the Holocaust, but 2) we should still definitely blame the Palestinians, too.
Netanyahu claimed that Hitler only decided to exterminate the Jews after meeting with Palestinian grand mufti Haj Amin al-Husseini : “‘So what should I do with them?’ [Hitler] asked. [Husseini] said, ‘Burn them.’” Of course, the vast majority of Holocaust historians have rejected the notion that Hitler needed Husseini’s suggestion; in fact, Hitler had already murdered hundreds of thousands of Jews before the two ever met.
Netanyahu made these claims, which would partially absolve one of history’s greatest monsters of responsibility, in an effort to implicate the Palestinians in the most tragic event in Jewish history. And now he’s mad everyone is so focused on the Hitler part.
So, as one does after any incoherent racist tirade, Bibi took to Facebook to let us know that interpreting his words for their literal meaning was “absurd”:
In other words: We should still hate the Nazis. But we should definitely hate the Palestinians, too.
