It's ridiculous that this primary and election is separate from the general primaries and election. Just a month's difference, and all that money that the state could use elsewhere. But Christie didn't want any enthusiasm for Booker to carry elsewhere on the general election ticket.
Exactly. Just like Schwarzennegger spent tens of millions here on special elections to try to grab power (and got his ass handed to him). Because wasteful spending is bad, but IOKIYAR.
Well, Frank Lautenberg died the day before the primary, so having the special primary the same day as the regular primary was not going to happen. You are absolutely right about the general though.
Oh well. I hope he wins, and then does more than just mugging for the camera and helping his rich buddies get jobs for their spoiled brats. Just because Democrats are, in general, a better choice than Republicans, doesn't necessarily mean that they're not full of their own fucked up set of baggage.
Well in Illinois, someone resigns/retires and then appoints a family member.
I'm a total Booker fan-girl and NJ expat. I totally agree that he is flawed, but in our system you've gotta pick the lesser of the evils. There's never going to be a viable candidate that 100% aligns with anyone's - let alone a majority's - complete ideology and agenda. You just have to put some confidence in people you think will work to tip things in your direction. I think Booker can work towards that, despite imperfections.
I used to be the sort of ideologue who said things like, "It's my obligation as an intelligent and informed person to affect change," and that people with dissenting opinions needed to get inside to make opinions heard. I still believe both of those things, in theory, but I have come around to the realities. So now I'm not in government, but I work with it/sometimes against it and I realize how compromises and politicking are necessary.
Woe is us, but maybe we can push things forward bit by bit?
yup, just lesser of two evil, since the other one has gone bat-shit insane.
Barack Obama did nothing as a senator, but got voted in as president based on mugging for the camera.
As for your point on Democrats, I think they are worse than Republicans. At least with a Republican, I know where they stand. Democrats tend to talk social justice, but in general have big money backers that they won't mention too loudly. Like Bank of America (who helped with the banking disaster), Time Warner (who is making sure they can keep cable expensive), and lawyers, who are a sue-happy little bunch who would balk at tort reform.
Or how about this little promise they reneged on:

Sorry, but both are evil. Just hate Dems a little more because of their hypocrisy.
Let's see, last Republican Mayor of Newark left office in 1953. I'm going to put money on Booker.
Lonegan is a raging libertarian loon, he was tea party before tea-trading was cool, he is an utter joke. Its deliciously funny that the GOP has fallen so far into the grips of the insane clown posse fringe that this person is their candidate. Its on a level with Delaware nominating Christine O'Donnell. And there is a smell of sulfer about him when it comes to race-ist-y things, of the level of the Grand King of All Libertarians, Rand Paul, just day before yesterday Lonegan was whining the white man's blues song saying he has a "handicap" in this election because he was "running as a white male in New Jersey." Yeah rght, because the rest of our congressional delegation is black? No, whats that you say, its all white males? Jesus you have to have some persecution complex to say that shit.
tea-trading, trading.
Ah, I see what you have done there.
