Next Charlie Hebdo Issue Will Feature Muhammad Cartoons
The next issue of Charlie Hebdo will "naturally" include cartoons of Muhammad, the magazine's lawyer told a French radio station on Monday. The issue, one million copies of which will be published on Wednesday, will also be translated into 16 languages.
"We will not give in otherwise all this won't have meant anything," Richard Malka told France Info radio, according to the Telegraph. "Humor without self-deprecation isn't humor. We mock ourselves, politicians, religions, it's a state of mind you need to have…The Charlie state of mind is the right to blaspheme."
Malka also discussed the challenges of publishing so soon after the attack, which left eight staffers at the magazine dead. "It's complicated, because we have to manage the future, the funerals that will take place all this week, but it's moving forward and will be completed this evening," he said. "It's an act of life, of survival."
UPDATE: Libération now says three million copies of the issue will be published.
